Camp Hope
Has been postponed to May 2014
Camp Hope provides programs, services and activities for families seeking emotional support, hope, and healing as they transcend the overwhelming loss of their loved one. Dedicated staff and volunteer peer facilitators will companion families during the difficult early hours, week, months and years. Camp Hope provides a safe environment for expression and inquiry into the issues, emotions, and challenges that arise from losing a loved one.
The retreat location in the Black Hills will give participants time to be outdoors to rest and recreate in a beautiful natural setting. Free time on Saturday afternoon will include opportunities for canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, arts and crafts, or enjoying the Black Hills on your own.
"On December 24, 2003, my world and my family's world changed forever. My oldest son, Captain Christopher Soelzer was killed while serving this United States in Iraq. Since Chris' death, I have learned to mourn well and live well. It is because of this grief journey, that I am passionate about creating a safe place for families to learn to integrate their loss of a child, a sibling or a grandchild into every breath they take. Camp Hope, a grief retreat, is one avenue for families to begin to live again and find joy in their lives. I have chosen to companion others on their grief journey and in so doing I continue to speak Chris' name and honor his service to others as well. As the Director of Camp Hope, I welcome you and your family as you seek to find hope and purpose again."
- Delain Johnson, Director of Camp Hope
